About the Artist Registry
The Great Music Project (GBMP) Artist Registry has a cultural plan for community self-determination and empowerment. This plan calls for a complete integrated arts program that encompasses the performing, visual media and archiving arts. The GBMP’s Artist Registry will serve to perpetuate our cultural heritage and the continuation of our artistic traditions.
The execution of this great endeavor is accomplished through the multileveled components of the artist registry: production, promotion, catalogue manuscripts, books, records, C.D.’s, tapes, photo journals, films and videos of the participating artists. This encompassing project will enable marketing the wholesale and retail items on the World Wide Web. In addition, the design of this program will educate young and adult artists in the “Creative Arts.”
The Preservation of and the cataloging of a vast archive of tapes, videos, posters, sheet music, and books memorabilia will be made available on our website: Greatblackmusicproject.org to World wide web learning institutions.
This program is supported by Northeastern Illinois University’s Jacob Carruthers Center for Inner City Studies. The Program provides internship opportunities for NEIU students who are interested in the creative aspects of the entertainment business. With the support of NEIU, the plan facilitates institution building while promoting the continued legacy of the arts in the Bronzeville community.
The preservation of our history, “Past to Present”, the artists in the Bronzeville community, are our start up target audience. We began our archives with two great Chicago (AEOC) and Oscar Brown Jr. Both of these international projects are displayed in their entirety on the GBMP’ website. Our world wide website will spread the word for the purpose of enhancing our promotional marketing of all our projects. A $15 fee covers one Artist listing in the Registry per year. Artists residing outside of the Bronzeville community are charged a $20 fee. Renewal notices are sent each April. If you choose not to renew, your entry is deleted. The Registry is updated weekly as applications are received. Visit our registration information page for details or to download an application. You may also contact the GBMP to have an application sent to you.
